Recently, Z-Nano ZFinger, the world's smallest mouse for laptop, according to Guiness Book Of Records, came to my attention. Why would anyone want to use an even smaller laptop mouse?
Over the past several years, the trackpad technology has become ubiquioutous on all laptops and netbooks. Yet, from the ergonomic perspective, using a trackpad is not a preferred solution for many people. Especially professionals, writers, designers, as well as gamers, find it lacking. The trackpad is usually just not sufficiently accurate, and it takes time to getting used to. And even once you have gotten used to the trackpad, there is still an inherent precision limitation to it. One can just not draw very effectively with it, and using a trackpad quickly becomes a frustrating experience for professional laptop users.
So, a quest for a miniature mouse for laptop makes sense. We have described previously a variety of mice, smaller and larger types that one can use reasonably well when one has a decent mousepad available or at least a suitable surface for a optical or laser mouse to glide over.
But with today's netbooks and small notebooks, sometimes getting space or opportunity to use a mouse pad is limited or out of question altogether. Think for example of working with a netbook when sitting up on a couch, or in bed, or when flying on a commercial plane and only having a small tray to place your netbook or laptop on. In those cases, using a normal or smaller-size laptop mouse is out of question and it is going to be very frustrating.
You might just be tempted to go back to using the inaccurate trackpad. But wait! There is another solution emerging in the marketplace. A super small mouse for laptop!
How can a super small laptop mouse be helpful? Well, from the look of things, one can use a mouse on the laptop's top surface, to the left or right of the built-in trackpad. The mouse is so small that it can be moved around with the index finger only, using the thumb for support. The small space needed for its use is the advantage over bigger mice for laptops. Its advantage over the trackpad is better precision.
While I am looking forward to get my hands on one of these mice for a full review, you can check out the website with a terrific video about this world's smallest laptop mouse, and convince yourself of its ability to assist in accurate drawing of images, for instance in Photoshop.
The only downside of this mouse is that it is only available in a wired model. I would like to see it available in wireless - as a super small wireless laptop mouse - that would enable one to use it while keeping the keyboard clear. This in turn would possibly enable one to quickly switch between the keyboard and the mouse, giving it an ultimate advantage over the trackpad in both accessibility and precision.
